Lisa Clara Burke

I have decades of design experience, both with interior and landscape design. I hold Certifications from the New England School of Feng Shui and Graceful Lifestyles Feng Shui Interior Re-design School.

My goal at About Place is to share what I have learned and to help others fall in love with their homes and gardens. The process is unique to each of us. I respect this, and do not oversimplify the challenge by using harsh methods of extracting your belongings or encouraging you to spend more than you can afford to decorate or landscape. Our capacities to attach ourselves to the objects around us and to respond to beauty are at the heart of what it means to be human. Even these insights can help us let go, bit by bit, appreciate the power of change and to understand ourselves in relationship to the spaces around us. I work with design principles and with you as an individual to realize uplifting results with every job.

Freedom from your stuff frees you up to do more of what you love.

As the founder of About Place, I myself have wrestled with the inclination to collect too much stuff. I have the imagination to see potential in so many things around me. As a child, I used to pick through trash piles on my way home from elementary school and was spurred-on by the many useful and quality items that I found.

In my later years, I repaired things, furnished my apartments, and created art out of found objects.

Eventually, when my children where grown, I found myself the keeper of the memories for both my family of origin and as a mother. There were “things” that held memories…all over my house! Subsequently, I felt weighed down.

Eventually though, I did it! I said goodbye to three quarters of my belongings and lightened my load. I’ve since moved several times and rediscovered parts of myself that before I had no time to develop.

With gratitude,

Lisa
